A Procura do Sublime na paisagem como experiência consciente ou inconsciente e integrante da vivência contemporânea num mundo moderno e globalizado, são o mote de partida. O turismo, a viagem e a exploração de um mundo cada vez mais pequeno e familiar, transformou-se num ritual da vida moderna. As nossas experiências de viagem deixam marcas profundas na nossa existência e são pautadas pela ambivalência de uma atração por encontrar o que sabemos existir e experimentar o desconhecido.

A arte tem contribuído para esta dicotomia ao codificar e mistificar a paisagem, e ao trazer para “um universo previsível e domesticável"1 a busca pelo absoluto e ilusório sublime que ela contém. Questionar esta relação entre a arte e a experiência moderna da paisagem, num mundo em que a podemos viver de uma forma direta, rápida e repetida, e onde a longa tradição da sua representação artística se tornou tão familiar e acessível, parece cada vez mais pertinente e necessário.

The Search for the Sublime in the landscape, as a conscious or unconscious experience that is part of contemporary living in a modern and globalized world, is the motto that gives form to this work. Tourism, travel and exploration of an increasingly small and familiar world, has become a ritual of modern life. Our travel experiences leave deep marks in our lives and are guided by the ambivalence of an attraction to find what we know exist and also experience the unknown.

Art has contributed to this dichotomy by encoding and mystifying the landscape, and by bringing to “a predictable and domesticated universe"1the quest for the absolute and the illusory sublime, that it contains. The relationship between art and this modern experience of the landscape, in a world where we can live it in a very direct, rapid and repeated way, and where the long tradition of its artistic representation has become so familiar and accessible, turns it increasingly relevant to question this link.
