Do poder supremo de Zeus à emergência das tecnologias fotovoltaicas, a noção irradia mil raios e toca muitos dos aspectos das nossas civilizações, dos mais arcaicos e imateriais aos mais concretos, actuais e inovadores. Ela evoca a condição primordial da vida terrena em todas as suas formas, a deidade de múltiplas faces que personifica a estrela solar (a Amaterasu xintoísta, o Rá egípcio, o Inti inca...), os cultos antigos dramatizados e ritualizados ligados aos solstícios, a força vital, à exuberância da vida e da fertilidade (germinação) e os ciclos permanentes da natureza. Inseparável do astro nocturno que reflecte a sua luz, a sua presença e ausência ritmam o dia e a noite. Do ponto de vista filosófico, a noção refere-se à manifestação do visível, à norma e à clareza diurnas ligadas ao exercício da razão, à sabedoria apolínea do «conhece-te a ti próprio», assim como à praxis. De um ponto de vista da consciência moral, a luz é sinónima de limpidez e de verdade, não no sentido de um dogma, mas no de justeza, da transparência do verdadeiro contra a opacidade do engano, da duplicidade e da manipulação. Refere-se ainda à estética do belo, do luminoso, do sublime, e também à iluminação mística. Se sempre deve haver escuridão para revelar o quanto a luz pode ser brilhante, está presente em todos os lugares e, mesmo nos tempos mais obscuros, sabe afastar as sombras quando elas se tornam demasiado ameaçadoras. É inseparável do acto artístico, que, em todas as suas nuances de <i>chiaroscuro</i>, a sua vibração e o seu dinamismo jubilatório, dá à luz a novidade.<br>

>From the supreme power of Zeus to the emergence of photovoltaic technologies, the notion radiates a thousand rays and touches many aspects of our civilizations, from the most archaic and immaterial ones to the most concrete, current and innovative. It evokes the primordial condition of earthly life in all its forms, the multiple-face deity personifying the solar star (the Shinto Amaterasu, the Egyptian Ra, the incan Inti...), the dramatized and ritualized ancient cults linked to the solstices, to vital force, to exuberant life and fertility, to the permanent cycles of nature. Inseparable from the nocturnal celestial body which reflects its light, its presence and absence rhythm the day and the night. From a philosophical point of view, the notion refers to the manifestation of the visible, to the diurnal norm and clarity linked to the exercise of reason, to the «know-thyself» apollonian wisdom as well as to praxis. From the point of view of moral consciousness, light is synonymous with limpidity and truth, not in the sense of dogma, but in that of the transparency of inner truth against the opacity of deceit, duplicity and manipulation. It still refers to the aesthetics of beauty, luminous and sublime, even to the mystical enlightenment. If there must always be darkness to reveal how light can be bright, it is at work everywhere and even in the darkest times, it knows how to cast away shadows when they become too threatening. It is inseparable from the creative artistic act, which, in all its nuances of <i>chiaroscuro</i>, its vibrancy and its jubilant dynamism, gives birth to novelty.<br>
