<p>A pintura, de algum modo como o mundo, desenrola-se através de contornos, cores, volumes, perspectiva, luminosidade e sombra; afirma-se através de imagens, propõe-se à visualidade, que toma valor ontológico designado por Valéry na sentença imperiosa: «Basta ver, e saber que se vê!» – Voir suffit, et savoir que l’on voit! <p>Francisco Brennand, herdeiro de uma família rica de Pernambuco, transformou, a partir de 1971, uma antiga fábrica de família, de tijolos e de telhas, num local de exposição das suas obras, numa área de 15 km². É uma encenação impressionante do seu trabalho em escultura, essencialmente em cerâmica, um templo cheio de símbolos, de traços de rituais, com as marcas de um tropicalismo pagão e sensual.</p>

Se no espaço público o objecto ou monumento artístico se discutem sobre uma linha de envolvência cultural, parece não existir qualquer entidade responsável pela sua preservação nem um espaço físico e intelectual para a discussão desta problemática. A progressiva destruição de “Árvore” (2002) evoca o desaparecimento de obras únicas, que existem ou foram construídas para o espaço público e que por consequência, são irresgatáveis para o contexto responsável e controlado do espaço museológico.<br />

<p>Estudou Pintura na Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade de Lisboa, expondo regularmente desde meados dos anos 1990. Se no início estava mais ligado ao universo da banda desenhada e das fanzines, a sua obra tem-se firmado no campo da pintura, sem contudo ter deixado de lado as influências pop e mergulhada muitas vezes numa forte crítica sócio-política.</p>
