Com o subtítulo “As questões palpitantes do nosso movimento”, esse trabalho inclui este excerto: “A liberdade é uma grande palavra, mas foi sob a bandeira da liberdade da indústria que foram empreendidas as piores guerras de pilhagem, foi sob a bandeira da liberdade do trabalho, que os trabalhadores foram espoliados. A expressão "liberdade de crítica", tal como se emprega hoje, encerra a mesma falsidade. As pessoas verdadeiramente convencidas de terem feito progredir a ciência não reclamariam, para as novas concepções, a liberdade de existir ao lado das antigas, mas a substituição destas por aquelas. Portanto, os gritos atuais de "Viva a liberdade de crítica!" lembram muito a fábula do tonel vazio.”<br>
<br>
A fábula do barril vazio foi descrita pelo poeta Ivan Krylov: dois tonéis, um cheio, o outro vazio, caem de uma carroça. Quando embatem no chão, o cheio faz menos barulho do que o vazio. A metáfora tem o seu eco numa questão política relevante no contexto da época, encerrando uma crítica aos “revisionistas”, que clamavam ruidosamente pela liberdade da crítica, apelo inconsequente porém, porque nulo de ideias.

Escreve então Lenine: “Alguns dos nossos gritam: Vamos para o pântano! E quando lhes mostramos a vergonha de tal acto, replicam: Como vocês são atrasados! Não se envergonham de nos negar a liberdade de convidá-los a seguir um caminho melhor! Sim, senhores, são livres não somente para convidar, mas de ir para onde bem lhes aprouver, até para o pântano; achamos, inclusive, que seu lugar verdadeiro é precisamente no pântano, e, na medida de nossas forças, estamos prontos a ajudá-los a transportar para lá os seus lares. Porém, nesse caso, larguem-nos a mão, não nos agarrem e não manchem a grande palavra liberdade, porque também nós somos "livres" para ir aonde nos aprouver, livres para combater não só o pântano, como também aqueles que para lá se dirigem!”<br>

“Que fazer?”, esta tem também sido a pergunta discutida por dois filósofos, <a href="http://sismografo.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=ab4eb899b20a1f87e612121f6&id=df328eb1b4&e=77ea0f8da1" style="word-wrap:break-word;color:#228b22;font-weight:bold;text-decoration:underline" target="_blank">Alain Badiou</a> e <a href="http://sismografo.us3.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=ab4eb899b20a1f87e612121f6&id=4a98996618&e=77ea0f8da1" style="word-wrap:break-word;color:#228b22;font-weight:bold;text-decoration:underline" target="_blank">Jean-Luc Nancy</a>. Fiquemo-nos por este último, que este ano lançou um livro precisamente intitulado “Que Faire?”: "O tempo urge porque a tarefa é longa… Apanhados num movimento que começou a mover montanhas, os mundos, as forças e as formas à semelhança do que regularmente revolve e remodela o leito dos rios, nós experimentamos uma urgência: a de fazer e de pensar para poder fazer. (…) É preciso mergulhar neste rio que nunca é o mesmo, mergulhando e sentindo o movimento do leito, o movimento das margens, a força da corrente. E tentar guardar o espírito lá longe no mar, aonde o rio chega. "<br>

Foi <a href="http://sismografo.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=ab4eb899b20a1f87e612121f6&id=45bf77e0a5&e=77ea0f8da1" style="word-wrap:break-word;color:#228b22;font-weight:bold;text-decoration:underline" target="_blank">Ângelo Ferreira de Sousa</a> que verteu estas palavras para português. E é ele que se propõe, nos propõe, pensar a pergunta “Que Fazer?”, título da sua exposição no Sismógrafo, a partir de um pano de fundo com mais de 150 anos. Sem oferecer uma solução para o problema, o autor da mostra revela cinco obras inéditas através das quais se podem encontrar ecos não só das reflexões de Lenine, Marx, Badiou e Nancy, mas também evocações do cinema de <a href="http://sismografo.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=ab4eb899b20a1f87e612121f6&id=38f86dab44&e=77ea0f8da1" style="word-wrap:break-word;color:#228b22;font-weight:bold;text-decoration:underline" target="_blank">Godard</a> – “Pierrot le Fou” - , de <a href="http://sismografo.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=ab4eb899b20a1f87e612121f6&id=6ec05270ac&e=77ea0f8da1" style="word-wrap:break-word;color:#228b22;font-weight:bold;text-decoration:underline" target="_blank">Marker</a> – “La Jetée” e de Assayas – “<a href="http://sismografo.us3.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=ab4eb899b20a1f87e612121f6&id=e73e1c1ba7&e=77ea0f8da1" style="word-wrap:break-word;color:#228b22;font-weight:bold;text-decoration:underline" target="_blank">Carlos</a>”. Vídeo, desenho – um mural –, fotografia, performance e tradução são o material a partir do qual se faz a aproximação a esta questão, a que ainda não sabemos responder de forma satisfatória. Declinando o verbo suicidar em português de Portugal e em português do Brasil, sem acordo e em coro; lendo um texto em voz alta, trocando os papéis, os géneros e as línguas; falhando sucessivas tentativas de pôr uma garrafa de plástico a voar, mas insistindo nessa possibilidade de vencer o destino; traçando uma linha de perguntas e de respostas passadas a imagens inscritas numa parede – e esses desenhos são já uma multidão; cantarolar com Karina e Belmondo, em tons de azul e vermelho, papagaio no ombro, em fuga, sempre em fuga: “Que posso fazer? Eu não sei que fazer!”<br>

É preciso portanto mergulhar no rio, combater o pântano. Como escreve <a href="http://sismografo.us3.list-manage2.com/track/click?u=ab4eb899b20a1f87e612121f6&id=6629eef36c&e=77ea0f8da1" style="word-wrap:break-word;color:#228b22;font-weight:bold;text-decoration:underline" target="_blank">Samuel Beckett</a> no fim de “O Inominável”, escrito em 1949: “(…) vai haver silêncio, aqui onde estou, não sei, nunca saberei, no silêncio não se sabe, tenho de continuar, não posso continuar, vou continuar.”<br>

É, portanto, quase por acaso que comecei a desenvolver uma prática que, com os anos, viria a tornar-se uma obra em si.<br>
<br>
É em várias configurações que trabalho, desde o aspeto acústico com micro-sons quase inaudíveis à amplificação que, graças aos micros, dão uma identidade e uma potência inesperadas a um material que parecia tão frágil.<br>
<br>
É um trabalho de superfícies, de contacto de materiais que tornam essa fraqueza uma força, como uma espécie de fenomenologia do quotidiano onde o som é o resultado de um experiência conduzida pelo gesto no seu encontro com a matéria.<br>
<br>
Suporte desligado da sua função, que é a de receber signo, marca, traço ou texto na sua forma de mensagem e que se torna membrana pronta para vibrar e transmitir outra mensagem, esta, sonora e em forma de ruído.<br>
<br>
É um solo para papel acústico que vou apresentar no Sismógrafo. É sempre a partir de constrições que trabalho, a fim de expandir estes limites que me restringem; e é dentro destes limites que vão aparecendo outras possibilidades, outras capacidades para produzir objetos sonoros menos óbvios e, portanto, menos previstos. Perto do silêncio, em torno ao silêncio e num quase-nada."<br>

Vive e trabalha em Barcelona desde 1992 focando-se na música improvisada, poesia visual e sonora e instalações. Musicalmente trabalha com o acordeão, gira-discos, electrónica, guitarra e objectos ressonantes para criar peças que alternam entre o silêncio e o ruído mais áspero sempre com atenção detalhada para a textura, dinâmica e tensão. As suas criações sonoras, quer compostas quer improvisadas, tendem a partilhar processos instáveis, materiais e gestos em bruto e restrições conceptuais. Com vários discos editados em editoras de todo o mundo, além do trabalho a solo colabora frequentemente com outros músicos e faz parte de vários grupos de improvisação, nomeadamente Cremaster (com Ferran Fages), 300 Basses (com Jonas Kocher e Luca Venitucci) e Atólon (com Ruth Barberán e Ferran Fages). Tem ainda vindo a apresentar instalações sonoras em museus e galerias pela Europa. No campo da poesia já viu o seu trabalho editado em Espanha e França, como é exemplo a caixa “Anima” (editada este mês pela Lenke Lente Editions) que contém poemas em diferentes línguas acompanhado por um CD com leituras da mesma. </span></span></span></span></span></p>

Published in 1863 the story features Vera Pavlovna, who tries to escape an arranged marriage through the conquest of her economic independence. It includes a political dimension: the author defends the creation of small socialists cooperatives based in peasants communes. Written in prison, the novel divides the opinion of readers like <a href="http://sismografo.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=ab4eb899b20a1f87e612121f6&id=430d6709b3&e=77ea0f8da1" style="word-wrap:break-word;color:#228b22;font-weight:bold;text-decoration:underline" target="_blank">Lenin</a>, <a href="http://sismografo.us3.list-manage2.com/track/click?u=ab4eb899b20a1f87e612121f6&id=01bd0a007b&e=77ea0f8da1" style="word-wrap:break-word;color:#228b22;font-weight:bold;text-decoration:underline" target="_blank">Kropotkin</a> and <a href="http://sismografo.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=ab4eb899b20a1f87e612121f6&id=567db5850b&e=77ea0f8da1" style="word-wrap:break-word;color:#228b22;font-weight:bold;text-decoration:underline" target="_blank">Rosa Luxemburg</a>, advocates of the text, and <a href="http://sismografo.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=ab4eb899b20a1f87e612121f6&id=44386b6db5&e=77ea0f8da1" style="word-wrap:break-word;color:#228b22;font-weight:bold;text-decoration:underline" target="_blank">Dostoyevsky</a>, who later writes “Notebooks of the Underground” in response to the utopian and utilitarian ideas and a novella of a text marked by the growing industrialization of Russia.<br>

It is however with Vladimir Lenin’s pamphlet “What is to be done?” (1902) that this question will become a trope still in need of an answer. With the subtitle “Burning questions of our movement”, this work includes this excerpt: “Freedom’ is a grand word, but under the banner of freedom for industry the most predatory wars were waged, under the banner of freedom of labour, the working people were robbed. The modern use of the term “freedom of criticism” contains the same inherent falsehood. Those who are really convinced that they have made progress in critical scholarship would not demand freedom for the new views to continue side by side with the old, but the substitution of the new views for the old. The cry heard today, “Long live freedom of criticism”, is too strongly reminiscent of the fable of the empty barrel.”.<br>
<br>
The poet Ivan Krylov described the fable of the empty barrel: two barrels, one full, the other empty, fall from a cart into the streets. When they hit the floor, the full barrel makes less noise than the empty. The metaphor has its echo in a relevant political question in the context of that time, closing a critique to the “revisionists”, who cried loudly for the freedom of criticism, an inconsequential appeal though, because it has no ideas.<br>
<br>
Lenin writes: “Some of us scream: “Let us go into the marsh! And when we begin to shame them, they retort: What backward people you are! Are you not ashamed to deny us the liberty to invite you to take a better road! Oh, yes, gentlemen! You are free not only to invite us, but to go yourselves wherever you will, even into the marsh. In fact, we think that the marsh is your proper place, and we are prepared to render you every assistance to get there. Only let go of our hands, don’t clutch at us and don’t besmirch the grand word freedom, for we too are “free” to go where we please, free to fight not only against the marsh, but also against those who are turning towards the marsh!”<br>
<br>
“What is to be done?”, this has also been the question discussed by two philosophers, <a href="http://sismografo.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=ab4eb899b20a1f87e612121f6&id=113c8eadac&e=77ea0f8da1" style="word-wrap:break-word;color:#228b22;font-weight:bold;text-decoration:underline" target="_blank">Alain Badiou</a> and <a href="http://sismografo.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=ab4eb899b20a1f87e612121f6&id=f183deecca&e=77ea0f8da1" style="word-wrap:break-word;color:#228b22;font-weight:bold;text-decoration:underline" target="_blank">Jean-Luc Nancy</a>. Let us focus on the last, who this year launched a book called precisely “Que Faire?”: “Time urges because the task is long... Caught up in a movement that began to move mountains, the worlds, forces, and forms in the likeness of what regularly revolves and reshapes the river, we experience an urgency: that of doing and thinking in order to be able to do. (...) It is necessary to plunge into this river that is never the same, diving and feeling the movement of the river bed, the movement of the banks, the force of the current. And try to keep the spirit far away in the sea, where the river reaches.”.<br>

It was <a href="http://sismografo.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=ab4eb899b20a1f87e612121f6&id=fae5e82555&e=77ea0f8da1" style="word-wrap:break-word;color:#228b22;font-weight:bold;text-decoration:underline" target="_blank">Ângelo Ferreira de Sousa</a> who translated these words to Portuguese. It is him who propose to us to think the question “What is to be done?”, title of his exhibition at Sismógrafo, starting from a backdrop of more than 150 years. Without offering a solution to the problem, the author reveals five unpublished works through which we can find echoes, not only from the reflections of Lenine, Marx, Badiou and Nancy, but also evocations of <a href="http://sismografo.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=ab4eb899b20a1f87e612121f6&id=7b11a95f7f&e=77ea0f8da1" style="word-wrap:break-word;color:#228b22;font-weight:bold;text-decoration:underline" target="_blank">Godard</a>’s cinema – “Pierrot le Fou”, of <a href="http://sismografo.us3.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=ab4eb899b20a1f87e612121f6&id=7ce4cd1571&e=77ea0f8da1" style="word-wrap:break-word;color:#228b22;font-weight:bold;text-decoration:underline" target="_blank">Marker</a>’s – “La Jetée” and of Assayas’s – “<a href="http://sismografo.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=ab4eb899b20a1f87e612121f6&id=b42fe95466&e=77ea0f8da1" style="word-wrap:break-word;color:#228b22;font-weight:bold;text-decoration:underline" target="_blank">Carlos</a>”. Video, drawing – a mural -, photography, performance and translation are the material from which he approaches this question, which we still do not know how to respond satisfactorily. Declining the verb suicidar (to commit suicide) in Portuguese from Portugal and in Brazilian Portuguese, without the spelling agreement and in chorus; reading a text out loud, changing roles, genres and languages; failing successive attempts to put a plastic bottle to fly, but insisting on this possibility to overcome destiny; drawing a line of questions and answers passed to images inscribed on a wall – and these drawings are already a crowd; singing with Karina and Belmondo, in shades of blue and red, parrot on the shoulder, on the run, always on the run: “What is to be done? I don’t know what is to be done!”<br>

It is therefore necessary to dive into the river, to fight the marsh. As <a href="http://sismografo.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=ab4eb899b20a1f87e612121f6&id=3ca8c719a3&e=77ea0f8da1" style="word-wrap:break-word;color:#228b22;font-weight:bold;text-decoration:underline" target="_blank">Samuel Beckett</a> wrote at the end of “The Unnamable” written in 1949: “(…) It will be the silence, where I am, I don’t know, I’ll never know: in the silence you don’t know. You must go on. I can’t go on. I’ll go on.”<br>

It is, therefore, almost by chance that I began to develop a practice that, over the years, would become a work in itself.<br>

I work in many configurations, from the acoustic aspect with almost inaudible micro-sounds to the amplification that, thanks to the micros, give an unexpected identity and power to a material that seemed so fragile.<br>
<br>
It is a work of surfaces, of contact of materials that make this weakness a strenght, as a kind of phenomenology of everyday life where the sound is the result of an experience driven by the gesture in its encounter with matter.<br>
<br>
A medium disconnected from its function, which is to receive a sign, mark, trace or text in the form of a message, becoming a membrane ready to vibrate and transmit another message, this one a sonorous one and in the form of noise.<br>

It's a solo for acoustic paper that I'm going to present at Sismógrafo.<br>

It is always from constrictions that I work, in order to expand these limits that restrict me; And it is within these limits that other possibilities appear, other capacities to produce sound objects, less obvious and therefore less predictable. Vive e trabalha em Barcelona desde 1992 focando-se na música improvisada, poesia visual e sonora e instalações. Musicalmente trabalha com o acordeão, gira-discos, electrónica, guitarra e objectos ressonantes para criar peças que alternam entre o silêncio e o ruído mais áspero sempre com atenção detalhada para a textura, dinâmica e tensão. As suas criações sonoras, quer compostas quer improvisadas, tendem a partilhar processos instáveis, materiais e gestos em bruto e restrições conceptuais. Com vários discos editados em editoras de todo o mundo, além do trabalho a solo colabora frequentemente com outros músicos e faz parte de vários grupos de improvisação, nomeadamente Cremaster (com Ferran Fages), 300 Basses (com Jonas Kocher e Luca Venitucci) e Atólon (com Ruth Barberán e Ferran Fages). Tem ainda vindo a apresentar instalações sonoras em museus e galerias pela Europa. No campo da poesia já viu o seu trabalho editado em Espanha e França, como é exemplo a caixa “Anima” (editada este mês pela Lenke Lente Editions) que contém poemas em diferentes línguas acompanhado por um CD com leituras da mesma. </span></span></span></span></span></p>
