The Department of Cultural Studies and Comparative Literature is<br>
currently recruiting for two full-time tenure-track or tenured<br>
faculty positions beginning fall semester 2009.<br>
<br>
Appointment will be 100%-time over the nine-month academic year.<br>
Appointment will be at the rank of tenure-track assistant professor<br>
or tenured associate professor, depending on qualifications and<br>
experience and consistent with collegiate and University policy.<br>
<br>
This posting is for individuals applying for a position at the tenure-<br>
track assistant professor level.<br>
<br>
Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in cultural studies, comparative<br>
literature, film/media studies, visual cultures, or related field in<br>
hand by the start date of the appointment (August 31, 2009).<br>
<br>
Preferred Qualifications: Specialization in visual cultures and new<br>
media (film and television in particular). Specific competence is<br>
desirable in one or more of the following areas: the place of media<br>
in the field of cultural and intellectual history; the emergence of<br>
new forms of community in the context of information technology; the<br>
historical construction of class, ethnicity, gender, race, and<br>
sexuality in diverse perspectives and cultures. Demonstrated<br>
competence in the historical and theoretical paradigms relevant to<br>
cultural studies and/or comparative literature is desirable.<br>
Preference will be given to applicants who have begun to establish a<br>
research trajectory and who have a record of successful undergraduate<br>
instruction.<br>

Candidates will be evaluated according to the overall quality of<br>
their academic preparation, the relevance of their research to the<br>
department's academic priorities and the field of inquiry, evidence<br>
of commitment to teaching and skills as a teacher, and strength of<br>
recommendations.<br>
