Sessão composta por quatro vídeos e uma conversa entre a artista e o
curador, apresentando diferentes momentos da trajetória de Suzana Queiroga
- desde o seu ingresso na Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Laje no Rio de
Janeiro em 1977 e suas primeiras grandes produções nos anos de 1980 até a
atualidade pandêmica de 2020/2021. *Film session consisting of four videos

trajectory's Suzana Queiroga's trajectory  - since her admission to the
School of Visual Arts of Parque Laje in Rio de Janeiro in 1977 and her
first major productions in the 1980s to the present pandemic of 2020/2021. *

Ao depurar um processo de criação iniciado em 2020, já em contexto da
pandemia do covid-19, a artista luso-brasileira Suzana Queiroga idealizou
uma grande instalação (ainda inédita) projetada especialmente para a sala
de exposições do Maus Hábitos, extrapolando matrizes bidimensionais para
gerar espacialidades e concretizações escultóricas, possibilitando diversos
percursos factíveis ou imaginários.

No ano passado, a artista deu início à série “O Mundo Segue Indiferente a
Nós”, explorando inicialmente incisões em papéis para construir formas
através de lacunas e, ao sobrepor as tais folhas em camadas, algo novo
surgiu no seu decurso, confirmando tópicos já investigados anteriormente
com relação aos traçados urbanos e fluxos variados, mas desta vez, captando
sobretudo o conceito de tempo e infinito, concedendo visibilidade ao
inefável, onde há um raciocínio visual que elucida um tempo que nos
direciona a uma maior consciência sobre a nossa efemeridade e, também,
sobre a urgência de uma cosmovisão, de uma noção sobre a nossa
interdependência de um modo mais globalizado.

E se é da incisão na matéria que cada trabalho da artista se revela, é
igualmente através da suspensão de cada plano recortado que nós podemos
compreender possíveis denúncias nas cartografias reveladas nas suas
criações de anos atrás, das quais a interferência humana em paisagens
durante todo o processo de civilização – pautado na destruição e
justificado como progresso – está impregnado. Neste sentido, a trajetória
de Suzana Queiroga é continuamente decolonial.

E, nesta atual fase em que a matéria têxtil proporciona um acesso
metafórico a um plano não terreno, a artista expõe o atual e trágico
período de crise sanitária que atravessamos, delatando a desigualdade
social gerada pelo funcionamento capitalista que hierarquiza vidas e,
sobretudo, ao utilizar o feltro (um isolante térmico) como matéria da sua
mais nova criação, Suzana comenta a circunstância vigente de isolamento em
unidades familiares, espaços compartilhados de moradia, ou domicílios
individuais, contudo também narra o permanente risco diante de um vírus que
transpõe fronteiras.

O projeto é uma reflexão sobre a fragilidade e brevidade da nossa
existência e, embora destile certo ceticismo, não deixa de apontar caminhos
lúdicos e subjetivos para destinos que transcendam a realidade.

*[EN] When debugging a creative process started in 2020, already in the
context of the covid-19 pandemic, the Portuguese-Brazilian artist Suzana
Queiroga idealized a large installation (still unpublished) designed
especially for the Maus Hábitos exhibition hall, extrapolating
two-dimensional matrices to generate spatialities and sculptural
achievements, allowing for various feasible or imaginary paths.   Last
year, the artist started the series “The World Goes Indifferent to Us”,
initially exploring incisions on paper to build shapes through gaps and, by
superimposing these layers in layers, something new emerged in the course
of it, confirming topics already previously investigated in relation to
urban routes and varied flows, but this time, mainly capturing the concept
of time and infinity, granting visibility to the ineffable, where there is
a visual reasoning that elucidates a time that directs us to a greater
awareness of our ephemerality and , also, about the urgency of a worldview
[Weltanschauung], of a notion about our interdependence in a more
globalized way.   And if it is from the incision in the material that each
work of the artist is revealed, it is also through the suspension of each
cut out plan that we can understand possible complaints in the
cartographies revealed in her creations of years ago, of which human
interference in landscapes throughout the The civilization process - based
on destruction and justified as progress - is impregnated. In this sense,
Suzana Queiroga's trajectory is continuously decolonial.   And, in this
current phase in which the textile material provides metaphorical access to
a non-earth plane, the artist exposes the current and tragic period of
health crisis that we are going through, denouncing the social inequality
generated by the capitalist functioning that hierarchizes lives and, above
all, to the using felt (a thermal insulator) as the subject of her newest
creation, Suzana comments on the current situation of isolation in family
units, shared living spaces, or individual homes, yet she also narrates the
permanent risk in the face of a virus that crosses borders.   The project
is a reflection on the fragility and brevity of our existence and, although
distilling a certain skepticism, it nevertheless points out ludic and
subjective paths towards destinations that transcend reality. Tales Frey*
