Em todos os espaços e lugares do universo existe movimento, cruzamento,
encontro, fragmentação ou associação. Toda a matéria pode ser entendida sob
a ideia de contínua interação e intensa relação. Os seus fenómenos
observáveis e inobserváveis, levam-nos a pensar que o lugar da existência
humana não se conforma com qualquer posição solipsista ou individualista,
convidando a pensar de um modo holista - tudo está em relação. Isto implica
inevitavelmente uma reflexão sobre o tipo de conexões e relações que
existem entre humanos e não humanos.
Assim, este grupo de três imagens denominado “Flutuações” propõe uma visão
fotográfica composta por multicamadas, combinando memórias estéticas
inconscientes, onde a dinâmica e a diversidade navega entre o micro e o
macro, fazendo emergir representações de espaços sociais e naturais.
As imagens expostas na Mupi Gallery serão eventualmente uma metáfora duma
possível memória eidética de fenómenos de expansão e velocidade do Universo.

Virgílio Ferreira [Porto, 1970]
Mestre em Fotografia pela Universidade de Brighton, Reino Unido. É o
fundador e coordenador da Plataforma Ci.CLO e diretor artístico da Ci.CLO
Bienal Fotografia Porto. Enquanto artista o seu trabalho tem sido exposto
na Europa, Médio Oriente, Estados Unidos e Sudeste Asiático, com destaque:
Trienal de Fotografia de Hamburgo; Flowers Gallery (Londres); Galeria
Módulo (Lisboa); Galeria Madé (Paris); Museu da Imagem; Fotofestiwal Lodz
(Lodz); Royal College of Art (Londres); Madridfoto; Format Festival
(Derby); Southeast Museum of Photography (U.S.A.); Unseen Photo Fair
(Amesterdão); Ofoto Gallery (Xangai); Photo LA e Photo Miami, Fotofestival
Mannheim; BAC Festival - Centre of Contemporary Culture of Barcelona; entre
outras. Tem sido reconhecido com vários prémios dos quais, 1000 Words Award
e nomeado para o Prix Pictet e Magnum Graduate Photographers Award, e
apoiado com bolsas para pesquisa e desenvolvimento de projetos incluindo
DGArtes, Santander International Masters Scholarships e Fundação do
Oriente, Macau, China. Representado em várias coleções públicas e privadas
em Portugal e no estrangeiro. Publica regularmente os projetos que
desenvolve.

*In the universe, there is movement, encounter, fragmentation or
association. All matter can be understood through the idea of continuous
and intense interaction. Observable and unobservable phenomena lead us to
consider human existence as not conforming to any solipsistic or
individualistic position; inviting us to think holistically - everything is
in relation to everything else. This inevitably involves reflection on the
kind of connections and relationships that exist between humans and
non-humans. Fluctuations proposes a multi-layered photographic vision,
combining unconscious aesthetic memories, that navigate the micro and
macro, and give rise to re-representations of social and natural spaces.
The images for the Mupi Gallery are metaphors for a possible eidetic memory
of the universe's expanding phenomena and speed. Virgílio Ferreira [Porto,
1970]  Master of Photography from the University of Brighton, UK. He is the
founder of Ci.CLO Platform and the artistic director of Ci.CLO Bienal
Fotografia do Porto. As an artist his work has been exhibited in Europe,
the Middle East, the United States, and South East Asia. Some of the most
significant exhibitions have taken place at Hamburg Triennial of
Photography; Flowers Gallery (London); The Portuguese Centre of
Photography; Galerie Madé (Paris); Unseen Photo Fair (Amsterdam); Ofoto
Gallery (Shanghai); Módulo Gallery (Lisbon); Format International
Photography Festival (UK); Madridfoto (Spain); Museu da Imagem (Portugal);
Photo LA, and Photo Miami (U.S.A.); Southeast Museum of Photography
(U.S.A.); Fotofestival Mannheim (Germany); Fotofestiwal Lodz (Poland);
Royal Academy of Art (London); and the BAC Festival at the Centre of
Contemporary Culture of Barcelona. He has been awarded several prizes, most
recently the 1000 Words Award for European Photographers, but also the Dst
International Photography Prize, Encontros da Imagem, Portugal. Ferreira
has also been nominated for Prix Pictet Award; Magnum Graduate
Photographers Award, UK. He has been awarded several bursaries for research
and development of artistic work including Direção-Geral das Artes,
Santander International Masters Scholarships, University of Brighton and
Orient Foundation, Macau, China. Represented in several public and private
collections in Portugal and abroad. He regularly publishes the projects
that develops. *
