*Volkan Diyaroglu*, o artista escolhido para integrar mais um dos ciclos de
residência artística do Maus Hábitos, no Porto, estará presente na
finissage de *Eu nunca emergi | emergir para afundar*

Na exposição que é a sua vigésima individual, o artista explora o duplo
significado da palavra emergir, retratando o estado de emergência que se
instala sobre a política e a economia mundial e os seus efeitos sobre o
ambiente e o quotidiano dos cidadãos. Pela pintura, impressão digital e
escultura, Diyaroglu suscita a reflexão sobre a permeabilidade do tecido
democrático às questões nacionalistas, ataques à liberdade e ao
imperialismo monetário.
Em entrevista ao jornal Público, *Diyaroglu* comenta: “Gosto muito do
Porto, já cá estive várias vezes, e há uns quatro ou cinco anos ainda
estava tudo bastante decadente, o que me agradava, porque era muito poético
– a minha mulher, que é polaca, até me dizia que eu queria viver no Porto
porque era igual a Istambul, decadente e com gatos e gaivotas, e ainda por
cima sem turcos”, ri-se. “Mas agora", prossegue, aclarando o título que
escolheu para esta exposição, "está-se a viver aqui o mesmo que em muitas
cidades: a economia melhora com o turismo e o dinheiro que vem de fora, mas
ao mesmo tempo que algo está emergindo, alguma coisa se está também
afundando".
Dentre as obras, quase todas inéditas, podem ser contempladas *Socorro
Portugal*, *Sideview of a congolese worker´s salary of a month* e *Falsas
notícias, falso alarme*.

A iniciativa integra o ciclo *Caravana*, um projeto levado a cabo pela Saco
Azul Associação Cultural e pelo Maus Hábitos em parceria com a *Câmara
Municipal do Porto*.

*Volkan Diyaroglu, the artist chosen to integrate another of the artistic
residency cycles of Maus Hábitos, in Porto, will be present at the
finissage of Eu nunca emergi | emergir para afundar, on September 22th at 5
pm, for a conversation with the public. In his exhibition, 20th solo, the
artist explores the double meaning of the word emerge, portraying the state
of emergency that is installed on world politics and economy and its
effects on the environment and the daily lives of citizens. Through
painting, fingerprinting and sculpture, Diyaroglu reflects on the
permeability of the democratic fabric to nationalist issues, attacks on
freedom and monetary imperialism. In an interview with the newspaper
Público, Diyaroglu comments: "I like Porto very much, I've been here
several times, and for four or five years everything was still decadent,
which I liked because it was very poetic - my wife, who is Polish, even
told me that I would like to live in Porto because it was the same as
Istanbul, decadent and full of cats and seagulls, and above all without
turkish people", he jokes. "But now," he continues, clarifying the title he
has chosen for this exhibition, "we are living here the same as in many
cities: the economy improves with tourism and the money that comes from it,
but at the same time as something is emerging, something is also sinking".
Among the works, most of them unpublished, you can contemplate "Socorro
Portugal", "Sideview of the congolese worker's salary of the month" and
"False news, false alarm". The initiative integrates the Caravana cycle, a
project carried out by Saco Azul Cultural Association and by Maus Hábitos
in partnership with the Porto City Council.*
