Para esta primeira exposição individual do artista na Kubikgallery, contamos com um conjunto de peças desenvolvidas neste último ano e que rastreiam pistas contrárias, apresentando-se em formato de composições ambígenas. As obras reúnem diferentes matérias, gestos de outros, acumulação de dados com diferentes fontes, revelando-se enfim numa condição de mutabilidade congelada.
“...(outro)” pode apontar para uma opção alternativa, um mais um diferente, um precedente ou mesmo o seguinte; mas se a relacionarmos com música pode indicar um desfecho conclusivo (coda [latim]).
Pedro Tudela apresenta um longo percurso artístico perfeitamente sólido e estabelecido, tendo passado por várias instituições, museus e galerias para agora retornar à sua atividade na Kubikgallery e expor o seu mais recente trabalho.

Sobre o artista
Artista consagrado no meio das artes plásticas, da música experimental, das artes performativas e cenografia, é Professor e Diretor de Curso da Licenciatura em Artes Plásticas na Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade do Porto. Desde 1980 que expõe com regularidade dentro e fora de Portugal, tendo participado em diversas mostras, performances e feiras de arte internacionais. Recebeu vários prémios de pintura e desenho e está representado em coleções particulares e em museus: Fundação de Serralves - Museu de Arte Contemporânea, Centro de Arte Moderna - Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, Caixa Geral de Depósitos, Museu de Arte Contemporânea do Funchal, Banco Privado, Anacom, Portugal Telecom, Bes e Fundação PLMJ.
A exposição estará patente até ao dia 30 de Julho.

For his first individual exhibition at Kubikgallery, Pedro will present a set of pieces that were developed throughout this past year that trace contrary clues in a format of hybrid compositions. The artworks assemble different matters, gestures of others, accumulation of data with different fonts, revealing itself, at last into a condition of frozen mutability. “...(outro)” may aim to an alternative option, a more a different, a precedent or event next; but if we relate it with music it can indicate a conclusive outcome (coda [latin]).
Pedro Tudela has already a long, perfectly solid and established artistic path, having passed through several institutions, museums and galleries and now he returns to his activity with Kubikgallery to exhibit his latest work.

About the artist
Enshrined and respected artist in the art circle, experimental music, performing arts and scenography, Pedro is a Professor and Course Director of the Bachelor Degree in Fine Arts at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto. Since 1980 that he shows his work regularly inside and outside Portugal, having participated in many exhibitions, performances and international art fairs. He received several painting and drawing awards and he’s represented in private collections and museums: Fundação de Serralves - Museu de Arte Contemporânea, Centro de Arte Moderna - Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, Caixa Geral de Depósitos, Museu de Arte Contemporânea do Funchal, Banco Privado, Anacom, Portugal Telecom, Bes and Fundação PLMJ.

Um copo com água foi filmado em plano fixo com uma inclinação acentuada. No cinema, uma inclinação no enquadramento é conhecida como Plano Holandês o qual é usado para transmitir uma sensação psicológica de instabilidade, conferindo mais enfase a um acontecimento inquietante. Aqui essa sensação de desequilíbrio não passa despercebida especialmente pela forma como o monitor é apresentado: na diagonal.
A imagem obtida pela câmara contraria o seu equilíbrio visual e necessita de ser corrigida para recuperar a sua credibilidade. Em Post-Production a operação de correção da inclinação da imagem para que o copo fique nivelado é feita pela inclinação do próprio monitor onde é mostrada. Quando montada na peça o copo de água da imagem do monitor volta á sua posição horizontal ficando, para tal, o televisor na diagonal.
A operação absurda de inclinação do monitor e a extrema simplicidade da imagem concorrem no exercício de mostrar o copo de água na sua posição de acordo com a lei da gravidade.
O titulo Post-Production refere a operação de correção da inclinação da imagem e comenta humoristicamente a forma absurda como é feita.

Sobre o artista
O trabalho de Rui Valério foca-se maioritariamente na música e na utilização do som (audível ou sugerido) e manifesta-se sob a forma de instalação, luz, vídeo, pintura, escultura ou movimento, procurando um cruzamento entre as tradições das artes visuais e da musica contemporânea combinadas com referencias à cultura popular e experiencias biográficas.
Rui Valério é licenciado em Belas Artes – Pintura, Mestre em Artes Visuais e Intermédia e Doutorado em Belas Artes Multimédia pela Universidade de Évora. Expõe com regularidade, desde 1997 e faz parte do coletivo Tone Scientists em colaboração com Rui Toscano, tendo participado em vários projetos de musica experimental. O artista está representado em várias coleções privadas bem como: Centro de Arte Moderna José de Azeredo Perdigão da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, Coleção MACE – Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Elvas, Coleção da Fundação de Serralves, Coleção António Cachola, Coleção Fundação Miguel Rios e Coleção PCR (Pedro Cabrita Reis).

A glass of water was filmed in a fix plan with an accentuated inclination. In cinema, a framing inclination is known as the Dutch Angle and it's used to transmit a psychological sensation of instability, conferring more emphasis to a disturbing event. In this case, that sensation of unbalance does not go unnoticed specially because of the way that the monitor is presented: diagonally.
The image obtained by the camera counters its visual balance and needs to be corrected to retrieve its credibility. In Post-Production the process of correction of the image’s inclination so that the glass gets levelled, it’s made by the inclination of the monitor where it’s being shown. When assembled on the piece, the glass of water of the image of the monitor goes back to its horizontal position by turning the monitor into a diagonal position.
The absurd operation of the monitor’s inclination and the extreme simplicity of the image are meant to show the glass of water in its position accordingly with the gravity law.
The title Post-Production refers to the operation of correcting the image’s inclination and humorously comments the absurd way of how it’s made.

About the artist
Rui Valério’s work has been focusing mainly on music and on the usage of sound (audible or suggested) and manifests itself through performance, light, video, painting, sculpture or movement. The artist combines the traditions of visual arts and contemporary music with references regarding popular culture and biographic experiences.
Rui Valério studied Fine Arts, has a Master Degree in Visual Arts and a PHD in Fine Arts Multimedia by the University of Évora. He has been participating in exhibitions regularly since 1997 and is part of the collective Tone Scientists in collaboration with Rui Toscano, having also participated in several projects of experimental music. The artist is represented in several private collections, museums and foundations: Centro de Arte Moderna José de Azeredo Perdigão of Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, Collection MACE – Museu de Arte Contemporânea of Elvas, Collection of Fundação de Serralves, Collection António Cachola, Collection Fundação Miguel Rios and Collection PCR (Pedro Cabrita Reis).
