PT

EXTENDED DEADLINE for project submissions 15.08.2016

DPic: Architecture, Art and Image – Utopia500 is an international Drawing and Photography contest based on the concept of “Utopia” and is aimed at undergraduate students and young researchers enrolled at any institution of higher education or research in the world.

Participants will be able to compete as individuals although we encourage the formation of multidisciplinary teams, composed of members with wide-ranging academic profiles. It is, however, mandatory for one participant to be a student of Architecture, the Fine Arts or Image, and be enrolled either in higher education or a research centre. No member should be older than 35 years of age.

The contest involves submitting two A3-size designs, the first showing a part of the city as it is now, and the second a utopian vision of how this same area could be in the future. Although these must be submitted in design or photograph format, there is no limitation on the blending of the two or on the use of photo manipulation and montage.

The contest is organised by UTOPIA500 (http://scopiomagazine.us4.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=20ae5d3d23f9ef118dda279c3&id=2cb5fc2d16&e=d627269853) in partnership with scopio Editions (http://scopiomagazine.us4.list-manage.com/track/click?u=20ae5d3d23f9ef118dda279c3&id=68cb34a5e0&e=d627269853) , Project AAI and the research group CCRE (FAUP) (http://scopiomagazine.us4.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=20ae5d3d23f9ef118dda279c3&id=26233bfe81&e=d627269853) , and is being promoted by CETAPS (http://scopiomagazine.us4.list-manage.com/track/click?u=20ae5d3d23f9ef118dda279c3&id=143d525cae&e=d627269853) and the Cultural Association Cityscopio (http://scopiomagazine.us4.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=20ae5d3d23f9ef118dda279c3&id=c125f604b1&e=d627269853) . Institutional support is provided by the University of Porto's Faculty of Arts and Humanities and Faculty of Architecture, as well as by the Art School of Porto (Escola Superior Artística do Porto) and the UNESCO Literary Town of Óbidos.

DPic / AAI / UTOPIA500 meets the requirements as laid out by the projects AAI and CCRE.

Submission of Design plans

All plans for the Drawing and Photography – Dpic / AAI / UTOPIA500 contest should be emailed to dpic.utopia gmail.com (mailto:dpic.utopia gmail.com)

The following form will also need to be filled in (in English) and sent, along with the two separate sheets with your design plans (in JPEG format):
* Title of plan
* Résumé of team members (max. 2000 words);
* Summary (around 300-400 words);
* Summary of technical elements involved in the plan

The Organising Committee will invite curators, architects and artists, as well as general Arts enthusiasts, to observe and select the most innovative entries in this international contest.

After the judging panel has selected their top 20, the designers will be contacted in order to send on their physical copies. These will then be exhibited in the Literary Town of Óbidos during the Fólio Festival (22^nd September to the 2^nd October) where they will receive another vote by festival visitors.

Following this, the organising committee intends to arrange a further, mobile exhibition comprising of the 20 top submissions, in addition to publishing these in the scopio Editions’ catalogue.

The judging panel’s decision will take the public vote (counting for 40%) into account in deciding upon the final winner.
