Vera Tollmann vive em Berlim. Trabalha como curadora independente e escreve sobre arte contemporânea e cultura da internet, mais recentemente sobre o Youtube. Estudou Cultural Studies em Hildesheim e Liverpool.

Cinema is a strong reference point on many levels of online video culture. Companies name their software products after cinema candy to create an affirmative production space and moving image formats like avi and mov are mistaken as a “false cinematic ‚primitivism” (Vivian Sobchack). Meanwhile, the quality gap between analog and digital video shifted. Youtube replays 4K formats. Movie theatres went digital. Video stands for a historical term, a genre and a technology. Has its notion become obsolete in the digital realm?
This seminar will discuss online video and its technological paradigms as expanded video. Nowadays, artists seem to re-connect with ideas of Expanded Cinema to stretch and break the given frameworks of their technologically advanced production settings and networked interfaces.

On the basis of five examples we will ask how cinema is being reflected online. Participants are invited to bring examples of ‚online cinema’ for this session.
