Artist in Working Residence Programme in Theatre and Performance

The School of Arts and New Media, University of Hull @ Scarborough is home to an innovative team of subject specialists working together to offer a range of degree courses in the following subject areas: Creative Music Technology, Digital Media, English, Theatre and Performance and a range of Interdisciplinary degrees. The programmes offered in the school are designed to prepare students to engage with contemporary art and media in the world today. Studying in SANM offers artistic and intellectual skills and experience that enable students to work in cultural and new media industries. See: http://www2.hull.ac.uk/scarborough/campus_departments/sanm.aspx
Following two successful residencies by Proto-type Theatre in 2009-10, and Reckless Sleepers in 2010-11 (the outcome of the second residency is currently showing at Flare International Festival in Manchester), the School
of Arts and New Media, University of Hull @ Scarborough seeks to commission a professional facilitator and/or performance artist(s) to make one or a series of new performances working with Year 3 students of our BA in
Theatre and Performance and the BA in Media Performance. We are looking for an experienced contemporary performance practitioner or company, with a strong body of innovative work. Some experience of facilitating workshops is
required. Experience of teaching /facilitating workshops within HE is desirable.
We envisage this as a two-week working residency, which should result to performance work(s) of professional (or near-professional) quality. The performance outcome(s) will be presented to the public at the end of this residency, as part of Coastival, see http://www.coastival.com/ The materials and work methods involved should allow and encourage students to undertake a high degree of initiative and responsibility in developing the work further after the end of the residency, for touring to national or international festivals, as the foundation for individual artistic practice or for funding a graduate company.
The residence will be hosted within the University of Hull's Scarborough campus. Our facilities include three professional, flexible workshop/performance venues of up to 80 capacity, a workshop studio and other facilities that can be booked according to requirements. The venues are equipped with professional lighting, sound systems, computers, wireless broadband and projectors. Other equipment can become available if required, upon negotiation. The artist will be supported before and throughout the residency by the module coordinator and production tutors.
Applications are invited from artists based in the UK or overseas.
Short-listed artists will be interviewed by phone or skype.

* Deliver 36 hours of workshop time during a two-week residency, which will result to outcomes as described above.
