(Art Beijing

 *Press Release*

*AFA to Participate in ‘Art Beijing 2010’ International Art Fair*

AFA Macau has organised a number of Macao artists to participate in the
Art Beijing 2010 – Contemporary Art Fair, which will be held in the China
National Agricultural Exhibition Centre (NAEC) from 29th April to 2nd May.
The Art Beijing 2010 – Contemporary Art Fair is the largest annual
international art fair in Beijing, and primarily displays contemporary art.
Exhibitors at the Fair include significant art galleries from various Asian
regions such as Chinese Mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea and India
as well as the Middle East and contemporary art dealers from Europe and
America. This year, AFA Macau again submitted a proposal of works for
exhibition to the organiser. Following strict assessment by the relevant
Executive Committee, AFA has been duly invited as one of some 120
participating parties in the forthcoming Fair, in which nine Macao artists
from AFA will exhibit. This is the third occasion that Macao artists have
joined such a major international art fair.

The works of AFA will be displayed in two sections, the first of which will
feature on-the-scene painting and new works by local artist Fortes Pakeong
Sequeira. In addition to displaying his four new works, Fortes Pakeong
Sequeira will paint a 4.8m x 2.4m work at the venue over six consecutive
days and exchange ideas at the venue. The second section will showcase
current local video works - including six sets of videos by Lei Sio Chong,
Ng Sio Ieng, José Drummond, Tou Kin Hong, Candy Kuok, Alice Kok and Joao
Vasco Paiva. Moreover, it will showcase a sculpture installation by James
Chu.

AFA has for the first time joined hands with the organiser to establish an
‘artist cinema’ at the venue. AFA will display, in eight separate units,
forty-six video works by artists from some forty countries and regions
worldwide, including Macao shown in the ‘Human Emotions Project –
International Artists Using Film & Video’* *organised in Macao and Beijing.
AFA recently organised a seminar entitled ‘Video Art and Human Emotions’ at
the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, attracting numerous artistic
enthusiasts and students. The reappearance of these works at the Art Beijing
2010 is believed to be conducive to promoting the development of video arts
in Chinese Mainland.

AFA is a non-profit making art organisation dedicated to co-operating with
local enterprises and exploiting Macao’s cultural and creative industries.
Both AFA Macau and AFA Beijing have respectively hosted various art
exhibitions this year. The art organisation has also participated in various
art fairs in Chinese Mainland and overseas - including those in Beijing,
Taipei, New York, etc. - over the past two years. Art Beijing 2010 is the
first international art fair that AFA will participate in this year. AFA
will further present its achievements in the field via this forthcoming
Fair, and will as usual uphold its cultural positioning and art concepts in
introducing Macao’s artistic creations to the international market. The
Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture and the Cultural Affairs Bureau
have granted partial funds to AFA for its forthcoming exhibition in Beijing.

The VIP session of the Art Beijing 2010 – Contemporary Art Fair will be
launched on the evening of 29th April. The Fair will open to the public from
30th April to 2nd May. For details of Art Beijing 2010 – Contemporary Art
