The State of Digital Storytelling
Nearly 80 countries worldwide have been introduced to Digital Storytelling.
The massive growth in the last few years has demonstrated the strength of
this distinct new genre of communication, originating from a group of
California practitioners associated with the Center for Digital
Storytelling. At the same time, countless practitioners have expanded and
adapted the core philosophy and methods to explore many new and provocative
areas of application, from using stories in mobile communication, to
integrating digital stories into curriculum, awareness campaigns, and public
policy advocacy.

Digital storytelling has been found to be an excellent tool for many sectors
of society, from education, to public health, healthcare provision, human
rights, immigration and language comprehension, issues of the environment
and land use, and addressing dislocation and gentrification. This conference
will allow a Portuguese, European, and international audience to examine
case studies of practices from the field, to view a festival of digital
story, and to participate in trainings with leaders from the field.
