 New year! New Structure!

We will now be sending newsletters bi-monthly, with the same newsletter for
both our member organizations (over 200) and our non-member subscribers
(over 12,000). We'll be having a more consistent format that includes new
residency profiles, Res Artis news, upcoming residency deadlines, online
tools and spotlights on artists attending residencies.

-Julie Upmeyer, website editor

 Upcoming for 2009

*Training & Support Program*

In 2009 we will be starting the Training & Support Program (before named
Mentoring-program). We are now in the process of making a toolkit, which
will be published on our website in due time. Together with Trans Artists,
Res Artis will also organise a Training & Support workshop for starting
residencies in The Netherlands and Belgium.

*Eastern Europe Regional Meeting*

Res Artis will organise a meeting for residencies in Eastern Europe,
connecting them to institutions and organisations who are interested in
starting a residency program. Throughout this event, workshops will be
organised within the framework of the Training and Support program.

*Trans Cultural Exchange Conference*

During the Trans Cultural Exchange Conference in Boston, April 2009, we will
organise a small Regional Meeting with the Res Artis members, we expect
about 20 members in attendance. We will also use this opportunity to have a
face-to-face board meeting.

*Res Artis at the BJCEM Biennial*

In the coming months I will also inform you more about the Res Artis Awards
in the context of the BJCEM Biennale in Skopje (Macedonia), 3-13 September
2009. So far, 9 fully funded residencies (from all over the world) will be
given to young artists present during this biennale.

I hope to meet you somewhere in the world or when you are in Amsterdam, The
Netherlands, please inform us and we can get together.

Once again all the best for 2009!

Warmest regards,

Marijke Jansen
vice-president Res Artis

 New Residency: Project 2048, USA

   - *Where is it?*

Project 2048 is a new artist residency program located within the Cell
Space Arts Collective in San Francisco's artistically historic Mission
   district.
   - *What is it?*

Project 2048 seeks to provide a place in San Francisco for artists to
create and construct new works that will be presented within it events space
or displayed in it's gallery as the culmination of the residency. Cell Space
is an active artist hub with diverse performance, gallery shows, classes and
a dozen in house artists of many mediums. As you might expect it is a busy
place but for those seeking a full time immersion in the San Francisco arts
community this is the place for you.
   - *Whats going on now?*

As events and other artists pass through our space the artists in the
residency program will be exposed to all types of artistic skills and
opportunities for collaborations. We are in our first round of residency and
are seeking to fill the openings as we find the right artists.

We love a good scheme and we can't wait to hear yours…

Online Tools: Facebook - groups and pages

   - *What is it?*

Facebook is one of the most widely used social networking websites. Users
can create a profile, link to friends, send messages, join groups and
networks and use integrated tools such as the calendar, photo posting and
dozens of other 3rd party applications.

Facebook is widely used in the international art and culture world as a
way to spread information and attract new audiences. One can create a group
or page for an organistaion, easily posting upcoming events, links, photos
and news which are accessible to the global facebook audience. Facebook
users can join your group, or become a fan of your page, receiving all the
latest updates to your page in their own profile and email box.
   - *Facebook Group vs Facebook Page*

Facebook Pages are relatively new, they were created so users could
directly connect to brands, artists and organizations. Pags have 'fans'
   while groups have 'members'.

Both Groups and Pages allows posting of photos, videos, upcoming events
and news. Both have a wall and discussion board.

   *Pages:*
      - logo more prominent, able to maintain a professional distinction and
      profile
      - most visible content is coming from the organization, not from your
      'fans'
      - pages let you measure your traffic
      - updates are listed as being from the organsaion, not from you as an
      individual
      - you can have an RSS feed on the page
      - you can send 'updates' not messages to members
      - supports external blog updates and applications

   *Groups:*
      - more focused on the group members and their activity
      - 'invite friends' function for group members
      - ability to message all members, up to 1,200 members
      - searchable by keyword

Res Artis has created one of each, you can view each of them and decide for
yourself which is better for you.
